Kundalini Yoga is a physical and meditative discipline that combines postures (asanas), breath (pranayama), and the chanting of mantras. This series of classes will study a particular sequence of poses that BKS Iyengar designed for people suffering from deep depression. It starts with supported backbends that people can do successfully even when their energy is so low they feel they cannot move. Gradually it proceeds into active and invigorating poses that "make the brain light." Studying the sequence four days in a row allows us to refine our experience of the poses so their uplifting powers can permeate more deeply inside us. These classes are recommended for students with at least one year of yoga. They are particularly beneficial for those with depression or in a time of grief but are also open to others who would like to experience more freedom in backbends and life in general.
